The first official web-site dedicated to the master João César Monteiro, one of the Portuguese avant-garde film director during the ’60s and the “Novo Cinema” period, is born.
The web-site, which is a tribute to a great intellectual, writer and director, will open new perspectives on Portuguese cinema. The main aim will be to build a virtual platform to promote discussions among film-critics, scholars, etc. A gate aimed at creating a focus on his films and his skills and a network around his figure, unpublished and unknown in Portugal and abroad.
The main goal of the website is to give and share material from all over the world for the study of his works, downloadable with a simple click. At first, the website will be available in Portuguese and Italian, but soon other versions will be available as well: French and Spanish.
Soon, screenplays from the original papers preserved by Monteiro’s family will be available on our site, with unpublished photos too. Furthermore, as soon as possible, everyone will be able to access the database of the director’s book and audio library.
Liliana Navarra and João Pedro Monteiro Gil, who are responsible for this project, know its final outcome will depend not only on the website, even if it proves meaningful and a success in itself, but on intensive research on João César Monteiro’s artistic production.
